Advancing Universal Human Rights

Early in his research into the human mind and spirit, author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard emphasized that spiritual freedom and enlightenment were all but unattainable for individuals denied their most fundamental human rights.

Accordingly, he wrote the Code of a Scientologist, calling on all members of the religion to dedicate themselves “to support true humanitarian endeavors in the field of human rights.” In doing so, he laid the groundwork for what has become a global movement of advocates for the human rights of all people, regardless of their social condition, ethnicity or religious affiliation.

Today, Scientologists on five continents engage in collaborative efforts with government agencies and nongovernmental organizations to bring about broadscale awareness and implementation of the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the world’s foremost human rights document.

We welcome the participation and collaboration of all who share the goal of a world where human rights are an everyday reality for all.

Nowhere on the globe is the fight for human rights a settled issue. Even where the rule of law predominates, there remains a clash between the forces of the citizenry and those who would deny or disregard inalienable rights. But as there is great strength in numbers and unity, the United for Human Rights education campaign provides materials and programs to organizations in well over 197 nations and territories working toward full implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These countries include South Africa, Colombia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, Mexico and Taiwan—which, even in their diversity, are united around the common reality that human rights is the vital imperative to maintaining a free society.
